I love being at the beach in spring or autumn – building sand castles and enjoying the sea breeze without the crowds of summer. Maybe Sylt isn’t an obvious choice for a beach holiday with kids, and yes, it can be very expensive, but it is a beautiful island with lots of places to go and do, so that’s already on the plus side.
We stayed at the Dorfhotel Sylt, near Rantum, which offers different sizes and layouts of apartments so it’s easy to find one which fits. I also liked the possibility of having a restaurant nearby, one the 1st morning we enjoyed our breakfast there before doing the grocery shopping. As the weather was nice we never went in the spa and pool area and also the playground was only visited once.
A place we visited several times was Buhne 16, a café/restaurant/bar at the beach – “at” meaning your feet are in the sand while you enjoy your food and drinks. It is a bit difficult to get the kids to eat if the table is in the “sand pit”, but after a while the sea breeze and the building of huge sand castles makes everybody hungry :-).
